Innovative Celadon Art from the Ancient Yue Kilns
11月3日，宁波越窑青瓷非遗传承人施珍在宁波诺丁汉大学图书馆带来了一场关于越窑青瓷艺术的讲座。对于越窑，对于上林湖，她饱含深情。
On November 3rd, Shi Zhen, the Ningbo intangible cultural heritage inheritor of Yue kiln celadon, delivered a lecture on celadon art of the Yue kilns in the library of the University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC). The artist has a deep connection with the Yue kilns and Shanglin Lake.

在现场，施珍讲述了她对越窑青瓷的追求以及对上林湖的情感。传统的越窑是单色釉，秘色瓷为最高级的品种，在慈溪一带，偶尔会出现多色釉，从中得到启发，通过尝试和努力，她创作了多色彩的“上林秋色”、“上林随想--红黄蓝组合”、“春夏秋冬-斗笠杯组合”、“淡味茶饮系列等作品，让越窑青瓷插上多彩的艺术翅膀，飞得更高更远；同时，她结合宁波海洋文化，创作了融入海浪元素的咖啡杯等。她希望，越窑青瓷更能深入寻常百姓家，助力宁波非遗走向世界舞台。
Shi spoke of her dedication to the art of Yue kiln celadon and deep feelings towards Shanglin Lake. The traditional Yue kiln celadon has monochrome glaze, with the "secret-color celadon" being the finest variety. However, in Cixi county, evidence of multicolor glazed porcelain has been discovered in archaeological digs. Thus inspired, Shi designed several collections of multicolored porcelain, including "Autumn at Shanglin", "Shanglin Fantasy: Red-Yellow-Blue Suite", and "The Four Seasons Tea Set". Her creative new techniques breathed new life into Yue kiln celadon. Of special note was a celadon coffee set that featured cups with “wavey” rims, symbolizing Ningbo’s maritime culture. Shi hopes to make Yue kiln celadon more accessible to the general public and a global audience.

The captivating lecture brought an ancient craft to life. Audience members took photos of the celadon items Shi brought to the event for display. One audience member called the lecture “a real treat for art lovers”.
对于越窑青瓷没落的缘由，施珍现场和听众进行了交流、对话。原材料的枯竭，定窑、钧窑等的兴起，以及审美的流变，众多原因导致越窑的衰落。
Shi discussed the causes of Yue kiln celadon’s decline with the audience: depletion of the specific type of clay required, the rise of other kilns elsewhere in China, and the changing preferences of different dynasties.
上林湖是越窑青瓷的诞生地，越窑青瓷兴盛于晚唐、五代，是我国历史上最早的瓷窑之一，是我国青瓷史上的一座高峰。从东汉到南宋，越窑青瓷兴旺了千年，却也因种种原因，没落了千年。
Shanglin Lake is the birthplace of Yue kiln celadon. The Yue kilns, as one of the earliest kiln clusters in Chinese history, came into being during Eastern Han, flourished in the late Tang and Five Dynasties period, then went into decline in the Southern Song dynasty. Yue kiln celadon thrived for ten centuries, then languished for another ten centuries.
施珍受其三爷爷及家庭氛围的熏陶和影响，与陶瓷艺术结缘。她的三爷爷施于人是中国著名的现代陶艺教育理论家、景德镇陶瓷学院创始人之一。自16岁跟随三爷爷赴景德镇求学，1997年，作为我国第一个陶瓷美术领域交换生，赴韩国首尔产业大学陶艺科进修，2000年学成归国，回到慈溪。施珍对陶瓷艺术的研究已经持续了30余年。
Inspired and influenced by her great-uncle and many other artists in her family, Shi developed a great interest in ceramic art at a young age. Shi’s great-uncle Shi Yuren was one of China’s greatest ceramic art educators and a main founder of the Jingdezhen Ceramic Institute. At the age of 16, Shi enrolled in the Jingdezhen Ceramic Institute. In 1997, as the first exchange student from China specializing in ceramic art, Shi was admitted to the Seoul National University of Science and Technology. Upon completing her degree in 2000, Shi returned to Cixi. Shi has been active in the crafting of porcelain art for more than 30 years.

The lecture was held in hybrid format with Chinese-English simultaneous interpretation. It was attended by officials from the Ningbo Municipal Foreign Affairs Office, the Ningbo Municipal Information Office, and the Jiusan Society of Ningbo, as well as UNNC teachers and students. A livestream of the event on Zoom and Youtube attracted a global audience that consisted of students and representatives from the University of Nottingham, Nottingham Trent University, Confucius Institutes, the China Cultural Center in Sofia, Bulgaria, Ningbo’s sister cities, international cultural institutions, and international friendship associations.
这一活动由宁波市人民政府外事办公室、宁波市人民政府新闻办公室主办，九三学社宁波市委协办，宁波诺丁汉大学承办。
